The celebrated Bond Street firm of Messrs. Johnstone and Jeanes were noted in the Art Journal's illustrated catalogue of the London 1862 Exhibition as having been established for upwards of a century: 'its renown has been obtained not only by a good and substantial manufacture, but by continual study to introduce Art into all their works'. They are known to have supplied furniture to the Royal family - including George VI's dressing mirror, sold from the collection of HRH Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon,Christie's, London 14 June 2006, lot 853.
