4° (298 x 245mm). Engraved title, folding genealogical table, and 149 (of 150) engraved plates of arms. (Lacking plate 65 'gerb roda Mel'gunovykh', light spotting, faint dampstain in some margins.) Contemporary Russian leather, red and green morocco labels on the spine (rebacked preserving the original spine, some repairs).

FIRST EDITION. The first volume of one of the great Russian publishing projects of the 19th century. The codification of Russian arms was decreed by Emperor Paul I; publication began in the reign of Alexander and was continued by Nicholas I.
