A MEISSEN GROUP OF THE POLISH BETHROTHAL
CIRCA 1745
The Sultan wearing a jewelled turban and long flowing robes, a sabre at his waist, taking snuff from a snuff-box held by his seated Polish bride, she wearing a white headdress and veil, a jewelled bodice and a flowered skirt, a Polish soldier standing behind them holding an axe, wearing a gilt plumed black cap and a long gilt-edged red coat, on a shaped oval base applied with flowers and foliage (the Sultan broken from base and repaired, left arm restuck at shoulder, restoration to snuff-box, hilt of sword, one gilt button on tunic lacking, she with restoration to bodice, the soldier cracked and restored through shoulders, plume of cap and elements of sword replaced, chipping and restoration to flowers and foliage, lacquering possibly disguising further repairs)
