Lot Essay

The sitter was the elder son of Count Nicholas Pálffy and his wife Therese Countess Rossi. He married Geraldine Countess Károly of Nagy-Károly in 1855. They had five daughers and two sons, including Fürst Nicholas Pálffy. Three other miniatures depicting Count Paul were in the Fürst Pálffy Estate, sold Dorotheum, Vienna, 18 October 2005, lots 9, 35 and 43.
