Vice Admiral Baron l'Hermitte (1766-1826), in military uniform, blue coat with gold-embroidered collar, gold epaulettes and buttons, white stock, wearing the French Military Order of St Louis and the Royal French Order of the Legion of Honour; cloudy sky background (artist's join)

A similar pastel portrait of the present sitter, and a further one of his wife, are in the Musée Quesnel-Morinière, Coutances, France. They are reproduced in N. Jeffares, Dictionary of pastellists before 1800, London, 2006, p. 276.
