Gold boxes by Alexandre-Raoul Morel (born 1801), who took over the business of his father the famous goldsmith Gabriel-Raoul Morel in 1832, are rare. He was last recorded in 1850. Another presentation snuff-box, with inventory number 904, is illustrated in C. Truman, The Gilbert Collection of Gold Boxes, Los Angeles, 1991, p. 145, no. 51.
