A CONTINENTAL GOLD-MOUNTED HARDSTONE HAND-SEAL
MID-19TH CENTURY
Tapering cylindrical opalescent agate seal with faceted sides, the gold mount chased with palmettes interspersed with acanthus, the spreading sablé gold base gadrooned and chased with scrolling foliage, the agate matrix engraved with two coats-of-arms accolé
3 3/8 in. (86 mm.) high
The arms are those of Mercy-Argenteau, for Charles Henri François Marie, Comte de Mercy-Argenteau (1840-1892), with those of Choiseul-Praslin in pretense, for Alix Eugénie Davida Laure Choiseul-Praslin (1843-1878), accolé with another.
