Slightly tapering étui of oval section, the sablé cover and base with alternating polished pink gold and laurel-chased green gold fluting, the borders chased with pearled ribbon guilloché between acanthus-bands, the domed lid embossed with a yellow gold rosette on frosted ground, the matrix with two coats-of-arms accolé

The arms are those of Voyer de Paulmy d'Argenson, for Madeleine Suzanne Adélaïde le Voyer-d'Argenson de Paulmy (1752-1813), accolé with those of Montmorency-Luxembourg, for Anne Charles Sigismond de Montmorency-Luxembourg, Marquis de Royan later 2nd Duc de Pinei-Luxembourg (1737-1803). Madeleine Suzanne was the daughter of Marc Antoine René de Voyer, Marquis de Paulmy and 3rd Marquis d'Argenson (1722-1787) and his second wife, Marguerite Fyot de La Marche (d. after 1784). The duc was the son of Charles Anne Sigismond de Montmorency-Luxembourg (1721-1777) and Marie-Étiennette de Bullion-Fervacques (d. 1749).
Anne Charles Sigismond de Montmorency-Luxembourg was the first Christian Baron of France and served as Field Marshal to King Louis XVI. He married Madeleine Suzanne in 1771. She was styled dame du palais de la reine by Queen Marie-Antoinette in 1774.
