Each elongated octagonal with gadrooned rim and pierced sides, each applied with two scroll handles, engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked underneath
9 in. (22.8 cm.) wide
20 oz. (637 gr.)
The arms are those of Heathcote quartering another, probably Rayner, with Moyer in pretence, for John Heathcote (d.1795) of Conington Castle, and his wife Lydia (d.1822), daughter and heir of Benjamin Moyer (d.1759), whom he married in 1764. (2)

Lot Essay

John Heathcote commissioned the toilet service shortly after his marriage to Lydia Moyer. It was on a sumptuous scale weighing 430 ounces and gilded at a cost of over £56.
