Pommard 1er Cru, Les Epenots--Vintage 1999
Côte de Beaune. Domaine de Courcel
Tasting note: The dark ruby-colored 1999 Pommard Grand Clos Des Epenots, from the estate's 8-hectare monopole, has fresh black fruit and sweet oak aromas. Loads of blackberries, cassis, and road tar flavors can be found in its deep, powerful, and muscular character. It has excellent concentration yet a rugged, tannic, firm personality. If the fruit gains the upper hand with final racking pre-bottling, this wine will ultimately merit an outstanding rating. If not, its structure could dominate. 87-89 points. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 135 (Jun 2001)
