Lot Essay

For a rectangular Meissen box circa 1755, the cover painted on the interior with a similar portrait attributed to Heinrici, see Barbara Beauchamp-Markowsky, Porzellandosen des 18. Jahrhunderts, Munich, 1985, cat. no. 111.

It is possible for the replacement cover to have been made by the same manufacturer and decorated in the same workshop that produced the box.
