The double-hinged leather-lined top above double front secretaire drawer with well and lettered compartments, opposed by a false drawers, the casters stamped 'LANGEBEAR & CO. BIRM', the hinges to top stamped 'C', the lock stamped 'STEDALL & CO. IMPROVED 2 LEVER', lacking reading ledge

Descriptif du lot

The desk derives from a Gillows pattern featured in the 1801 Estimate Sketch Book, no. 1675 (Westminster City Archive). A popular feature of the Gillows desks was the frieze drawer with alphabet-inscribed medallions such as feature on the lids of the compartments of this piece.
