The stamp 'Jacob Frères, Rue Meslée' was used by François-Honoré-Georges and Georges II Jacob, between 1796 and 1803.
A somno of identical model was recorded in the Emperor's bedroom at the Palais des Tuileries in 1807 (and is illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Grand Trianon: Meubles et objets d'art, Paris, 1975, p. 164):
Un somno acajou orné à la devanture d'un trèpied a un vanteau, tablette intérieure et cylindre. Deux marbres bleu turquin dont un avec cercle de cuivre bruni.
The Emperor's somno was probably one of two made by Jacob Frères and delivered to the Tuileries by Jacob Père in 1800, described as:
Deux tables de nuit en bois d'acajou à deux tablettes de marbre chacune, avec des roulettes en cuivre.
It was subsequently returned by the Emperor to the Garde Meuble in 1808 in the course of redecorating and made its way to the Petit-Trianon where it was recorded in 1836.
