A LATE LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY MECHANICAL TRAVELLING BUREAU PLAT
STAMPED 'G. DESTER', CIRCA 1790
With two shallow document drawers to each long side and one drawer to each short end, all spring-loaded, the legs removeable for travelling, legs inscribed 'F' beneath the ormolu collars, stamped to underside of one short drawer
29½ in. (75 cm.) high, 48½ in. (122 cm.) wide, 26½ in. (67.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

Godefroy Dester, maître in 1774.

This bureau plat is a highly unusual model, having detatchable legs for travel, in addition to an atypical spring-loaded drawer configuration and specially-fitted long, narrow drawers to the long sides.
