Lot Essay

While Kurdish carpets of the 18th century are known for their wonderful colors, this carpet is truly extraordinary. Among those used are deep emerald green, aubergine, mustard yellow, bright blue, and creamy ivory. This lot demonstrates the conversation between Kurdish carpets of this period and their classical Isfahan predecessors of the pervious century. The border with its bracket leaves is derived from those seen in lots 31, 129, 131, and 205. The bold palmettes recall those in lots 131 and 203.
