Lot Essay

The distinctive serpentine rest for the slant front along with the matched, figured burr walnut marquetry panels within darker banded borders are typical of furniture from the Veneto. Related commodes and bureaux of the same form and marquetry can been seen in C. Santini, Mille Mobile Veneti, Modena, 2002, plates 91, 107 and 135.
