Lot Essay

Benjamin Goodison (d. 1767) delivered a pair pedestals of similar design to Hampton Court Palace, under the direction of William Kent in 1732-33. Another pair, attributed to Goodison, were sold from the Di Portanova Collection, Christie's, New York, 20 October, 2000, lot 92 ($143,500 incl. premium).

Additional similar models are at Chatsworth and the Victoria and Albert Museum, illustrated in D. Fitzgerald, ed., Georgian Furniture, London, 1969, pl. 28 (W.47-1962). A further related pair of pedestals were sold anonymously, Christie's London, 5 December 1991, lot 221.
