Lewes') to [the publisher Nicholas] Trübner, The Cottage, Earlswood Common and The Priory, 21 North Bank, 6 July 1874 and 12 March 1879, thanking him in the first for 'meet[ing] my wants in the matter of Jewish literature' [evidently during her preparatory reading for Daniel Deronda], returning some volumes immediately, with criticism of Geiger's compilation Friday Night for omitting the authors' names in favour of the translators'; wishing to retain a volume by Hyam Isaacs, 'interesting as the writing of a Jew who professes to be a convert to Christianity yet writes affectionately & admiringly of his fellow-Israelites', listing other books which are to be set on her account and enquiring after an autobiography by [Isaac Markus] Jost; in the second letter, Eliot asks Trübner to call in 'on your way to the City' -- 'I wish to speak to you about my Husband's MSS'; together 3 pages, 8vo, the first on a bifolium, the second on mourning paper.
