Oblong 2° (304 x 478mm). 4 parts in 1 vol., 4 frontispieces, 4 dedications and 100 plates (2 folding) all engraved by Falda and Venturini (mainly marginal spotting, small paper flaw affecting text of pl. 13, fourth dedication plate creased). 18th-century half vellum boards, uncut (lacking endpapers, extremities rubbed). Provenance: Roma: Bassi, Zingari (stamp on pastedown).
"This collection of plates is the most charming that has ever appeared on the fountains of Rome and its environs, [...] all copies examined vary in numbering and arrangement of plates" (Fowler). The precise date of the original publication of these plates is unknown but c.1675-1685. The early impressions don't have the plate numbering which appeared later, perhaps with this edition around 1691 (Berlin Kat.).
