NICHOLAS I AND ALEXANDER II, Tsars of Russia -- A group of military awards, including two signed by Nicholas I, and two signed by Alexander II, St. Petersburg, 1840-1879. 12 manuscript and printed documents, 4 of which folio and on vellum with printed decorative borders, c.380 x 460mm (folded twice), and the remainder 4to and on paper, c. 340 x 210mm (folded once), all with paper and wax seals (some seals detached but present, a few marginal tears). Provenance: Baron Aleksandr Ikskul-fon-Gil'denbandt.
A group of military awards, including two signed by Nicholas I, and two signed by Alexander II, in favour of Baron Aleksandr Ikskul-fon-Gil'denbandt, father of Baron Iulii Aleksandrovich (1853-1918; Secretary of State from 1904-1909). Awards include promotions to Colonel in the Life Guards on 19 June 1840, Major General on 2 January 1850, and Lieutenant General on 19 April 1861; other awards include orders of Vladimir and St. George of various degrees.
