A GERMAN (SAXON) LEFT-HAND DAGGER
PARTLY LATE 16TH CENTURY
With tapering blade of flattened diamond section formed with a recessed ricasso cut with a recessed panel on each face, later guard, the quillons formed with characteristic forward-swept fluted spatulate terminals with ring-guard between, the latter filled with a pierced sprung-in plate, domed octagonal pommel, and later grip expertly bound with patterned wire and 'Turk's heads'.
