Lot Essay

The Alice Comedies were a series of 56 silent cartoons made by Walt Disney between 1924 and 1927. After the completion of the first episode Alice's Wonderland the failing Laugh-O-Gram studio which was to distribute the film closed down and Disney was forced to find a new distributor. It was Margaret Winkler of Winkler Pictures who agreed to send out the film.
Alice, The Beach Nut was the penultimate in the series and was released on the 8 August 1927. Walt Disney concluded the series at this point as he wanted to start concentrating on pure animation, he was tiring of the combination of action and animation as seen in the Alice Comedies. Disney, the director of Alice, The Beach Nut, Lois Hardwick played Alice, a the live action character, with Ub Iwerks as the chief animator.
This rare three page complete synopsis was originally obtained from the Bert Gillett estate, Gillett being one of Disney's early directors who started with the company in 1929. Over his career Gillett directed 48 cartoons including Mickey's Good Deed, 1932 and Three Little Pigs, 1933.
