Lot Essay

A similar charger is illustrated by Leslie B. Grigsby, The Longridge Collection of English Slipware and Delftware, p. 181, no. D155, where the author discusses Italian maiolica as the source of this design. An almost identical charger was sold at Phillips London, 12 March 1997, lot 254.
