A RARE FAMILLE ROSE TABLE SCREEN WITH IVORY STAND
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The rectangular panel decorated to one side with a scholar standing under the shade of an aged pine tree, beside a deer and a young attendant holding a scroll, observing a pair of bats in flight, detailed with ornamental rocks on a verdant ground, all within a beaded floral border and surrounded by an enamelled brocade frame, the reverse side similarly deocrated with a water landscape scene, detailed with a boat travelling toward dwellings on a distant embankment; the panel is inserted into a fitted ivory stand, finely carved in openwork with a pairs of confronted chi dragons amidst dense lotus tendrils, the spandrels similarly carved with descending dragons, supported on four feet, each emerging as an elephant head with its coiled trunk between a pair of tusks
