A FINE WHITE JADE CARP
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The flattened pebble naturalistically carved in the round to depict a carp with circular eyes and side whiskers, its elongated body modelled with a gentle S-shaped curve to provide the impression of a swimming movement, above an openwork strand of waterweed, the long bladed leaves extending the length of the underside, the material of even white tone with minor areas of russet inclusions
