A handwritten letter on Johnny Cash stationary, dated Oct. 3, 1964, to Ken Clancy of Columbia Records.Additionally included are three full handwritten pages and a fragment, circa 1964, in which Cash describes his decision to sign with Columbia Records, "In 1958 when I decided it was time to go to a major record company permanently - I searched my heart + conscious...and what man would overlook my notorious reputation for breaking appointments and not showing up for record sessions when I "wasn't in the mood." Who would have the patience to sit and wait for Johnny Cash to "produce." I had the gall and vinegar to believe I could do anything" Accompanied by 16 black and white photographs of Johnny Cash along with members of his band and production team accepting Gold Records, including a photo of Cash with June Carter.
