Lot Essay

Pieter Bleeker was a prolific author of works on the natural history (and particicularly the ichthology) of the East Indies. Born in Zaandam in 1819, he spent many years in the Dutch East Indies. On his return he became director of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurliijke Historie at Leiden.
