A CHINOISERIE OVAL SUGAR-BOX AND COVER, painted with a man kneeling playing a xylophone beside two vases, another sitting on a round mat with teawares beside a boiling kettle, another kneeling weeding a raised flower-bed and another kneeling on a low table holding two pennants beside a bowl of utensils, the cover with a lady kneeling before a jardinière of plants, a man seated beside a vase of coral and palmettes, a man seated addressing a monkey and a man seated with a prayer-wheel, the cover with gilt Buddistic lion finial, the hinged silver-gilt cover with stiff leaves (slight chip to one ear of finial, minute loss to gilding below hinge), the mount with EA for Elias Adam and Augsburg town mark for 1722-26, circa 1723
