FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 39 of 199 copies signed by Steinbeck and issued as a Christmas gift for "Friends of Covici-Friede." In a letter from January 1938, Steinbeck wrote a friend, "You know I had nothing at all to do with the printing or distribution of the St. Katy book. I have only one copy of it... [and] really don't know where you can get a copy but I have heard they are rare and expensive..." Christmas sentiment announcing the publication of Of Mice and Men laid-in. Goldstone & Payne A6a.
