ASPIN, Jehoshaphat (fl. 1800-1850). The Naval & Military Exploits which have distinguished the Regin of George the Third. London: Printed for Samuel Leigh, 1820.

12o (152 x 95 mm). Hand-colored aquatint frontispiece and 33 hand-colored circular aquatint plates (some occasional offsetting). Original pictorial paper boards, uncut (rebacked preserving original spine, front joint cracked, some wear at spine ends and edges); red morocco pull-off case. Provenance: Thomas S. Newson (signature on title-page).

FIRST EDITION. The 33 circular plates measure only 2½ inches in diameter, and Prideaux calls their execution "tiny and beautiful." Some copies carry two extra plates, "Vittoria" and "Pampeluna," although they are not mentioned in the "Embellishments" and were likely issued later as an added attraction for a book that remained in print for several years. Abbey Life 350; Tooley 70.
