A PAIR OF MESOPOTAMIAN LIMESTONE AND BLACK STONE EYE INLAYS
SYRIAN, EARLY DYNASTIC, CIRCA 2550-2250 B.C.
Once inlaid into a composite figure, the thick dark stone lids naturalistically carved, tapering at the inner canthi and outer corners, bevelled on the interior to conform to the limestone sclerae that are hollowed to receive the black stone pupils; perforations on the reverse for attachment
