A GREEK BRONZE APPLIQUÉ
ARCHAIC PERIOD, CIRCA 550 B.C.
Composed of thick hammered sheet, in the form of a warrior in profile to the right, armed in a corselet and Corinthian helmet with a high fanning crest, its rear tip falling behind his right arm, which is extended back, likely originally holding a spear, his left arm bent at the elbow and held forth, likely once strapped to a shield, with a large lidded eye, prominent nose and pointed chin, three plaits of hair falling along his neck; a pin on the reverse for attachment
