A PAIR OF GREEK GOLD MAENAD EARRINGS
HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 1ST CENTURY B.C.
Each with the tapering hoop formed of spirally-twisted wire, joined to a spherical collar framed by rings of granulation, and terminating in a finely-modelled head of a maenad, a wreath of ivy and berries in her hair, corkscrew curls falling on either side of her face, a loop behind the head to secure the tip of the hoop
Each: 1 1/32 in. (2.6 cm.) high (2)
