L. Nicholas Ruwe was a former United States Ambassador to Iceland and held positions at the highest levels of public service. Ruwe was assistant chief of protocol at the U.S. State Department from 1969 to 1975. He later served as a senior staff member and a consultant to President Ronald Reagan's election campaigns and from 1980 to 1984 was chief of staff in New York for former President Richard M. Nixon.

Mr. Ruwe served as Ambassador to Iceland from 1985 to October 1989, during which time he was responsible for the operation of the 1986 summit between President Reagan and Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev. The government of Iceland awarded Mr. Ruwe its highest honour, the Order of the Falcon, with a star and a cross.
