A Rare Pair of Porcelain Cups and Saucers
by the Batenin Factory, St Petersburg, circa 1830
Each cup of cylindrical form on a low gilt foot, with a wide flared gilt rim, the golden ground body decorated with a continuous scene painted in the chinoiserie style of Chinese figures amidst exotic birds and foliage, the inside of the rim with a white ground band painted with a gilt geometric design flanked by two thin blue bands, the gilt handle simulating a branch, each circular saucer similarly decorated with a white ground centre and exotic landscape border, gilt rims, marked under base of one of the cups with impressed cyrillic 'S.Z.K.B' over the inscription 'BATENIN'
Each cup 3 1/8 in. (7.9 cm.) high, each saucer 6 in. (15.2 cm.) diameter (4)
