Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna (1897-1918) was the second daughter of Emperor Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna.
As a young teenager, Tatiana was assigned to the Vosnesenskii Hussar Regiment and given the rank of honorary colonel. She headed Red Cross committees during World War I and, like her mother and older sister, Grand Duchess Olga, she nursed wounded soldiers in military hospitals from 1914 to 1917
Many of the photographs show Grand Duchess Tatiana in the company of soldier Vladimir Kinkadze, whom she cared for when he was wounded in 1915 and again in 1916. While photographs of the Grand Duchess with other members of the Imperial family in more formal settings are well known, the images of Tatiana in hospital setting, among patients and other medical personnel offer a rare intimate glimpse of her and her contributions to the war effort. The last page of the album includes a hand-written note in Russian, which possibly could be written by the Grand Duchess herself. It reads: 'If you are sad or you are feeling nostalgic if your poor heart is beating fast in your chest Go and kneel in prayer in front of the sacred icon Pray and your doubts will disappear and you will be enlightened with hope You will face the evil and your uncertainties and clearly see your destiny If your life (path) will becomes difficult and the storm is approaching don't be afraid but place all your hopes in God to whom you will pray with love'
