A Caucasian Shashka
circa 1890
Curved, the silver hilt with bifurcated pommel decorated with stylized niello scrolls and applied with a miniature order of St George, the leather scabbard with en-suite similar mounts.
37¾ in. (96 cm.) long
Provenance
Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich the Younger (1856-1929). Grand Duke Piotr Nikolaevich (1865-1931), brother of the above.
Prince Roman Petrovich (1896-1978), son of the above.
Then by direct descent.

This is the last sword from a group of Russian swords and shashkas which belonged to Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich the Younger (1856-1929) which have been offered at Christe's London, 24th November 2007, lots 40, 41, 42, 44, 11th June 2008, lots 323, 324, 327 and 24th November 2008, lots 34, 35, 36 and 37.
