Lot Essay

In this miniature, the future Emperor is depicted wearing the uniform of an Oberst-Inhaber of the Second Regiment of the Carabiniers, which in 1798 was transformed into the First Regiment of the Cuirassiers (Kaiser-Kürassiere). Franz owned this regiment from 1790 until his death in 1835. We are indebted to Georges Englebert, Vienna, for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.
