Lieselotte von der Pfalz, "La Palatine", her right hand holding a black gauze veil falling from her powdered curly hair onto her décolleté, wearing a white-lace bordered gold brocade dress embroidered with multi-colour flowers, an ermine-lined blue velvet cloak embroidered with gold fleurs-de-lys draped around her shoulders, her bodice bordered with a pearl string; column and sofa background; pencil and watercolour on prepared cardboard, oval -- 85 mm high, gilt-metal frame.

Charlotte-Elisabeth of Bavaria (1652-1722), second wife of the Duke of Orléans and sister-in-law of King Louis XIV, was the mother of the Régent. In her very frank and thorough correspondence, she reveals herself as an intelligent and perspicacious witness of the Court of the Sun King.
