ROBIN. AN 18 carat GOLD AND ENAMEL OPENFACE VERGE WATCH
signed Robin a Paris, late 18th Century

with gilt finished verge movement pierced and engraved star cock, turned baluster pillars, the white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, the case with multicoloured enamel floral decoration to the bezel and band, the reverse with translucent blue enamel on engine-turned background, centred by a gold and multicoloured enamel floral motif, with a Louis XVI gold chain attached with seal, vinaigrette, key and ball-shaped talisman, dial and movement signed - 39 mm diam.

Lot Essay

The case is marked with the Paris date letter for 1779/80, the charge of Jean-Baptiste Fouache and the goldsmith's mark of Nicolas-Augustin Delions who was baptized in 1730. He struck his mark in 1759, was warden of the Paris goldsmith's guild in 1777 and 1778 and died in 1785.
