Lot Essay

This plate would originally have formed part of a set of twelve plates representing the months of the year. A grisaille example attributed to Pierre Reymond and using the same central scene is in the Louvre (see S. Baratte, Les Emaux Peints de Limoges, 2000, Paris, no. N1290, p. 222).
