In 1815, the Scottish patron, John Campbell - later Lord Cawdor - commissioned from Canova a marble group depicting a reclining Naiad listening to music played by Cupid at her feet. Eventually acquired by the Prince Regent, the group is today in the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace. The present marble precisely follows the Cupid in that group.
