The present drawing was formerly attributed to John Robert Cozens (1752-1797), whose pupil Sunderland was and with whom Cozens almost certainly stayed with on his visit to the Lake District. Stylistically it is close to the work of Cozens and can be compared to The Head of Ullswater with Paterdale Lodge, Yale Center for British Art, see A. Wilton, The Art of Alexander and John Robert Cozens, New Haven, 1980, no. 164, pl. 57, which provides a link between Sunderland's characteristic work and the more elborate Cozens's inspired technique of the present lot.
