He perfected techniques for engraving in gold and silver leaf and his pictures were greatly admired in fashionable Dutch circles. Zeuner's oeuvre consists mainly of town views, largely of Amsterdam, as illustrated by two of the following three lots, as well as views of Haarlem, Utrecht and Groningen. Zeuner also specialised in views of country houses, such as those on the Vecht and the Amstel near Amsterdam, generally based on engravings by his contemporaries Jan de Beijer (1703-1780), Simon Fokke (1712-1784) and Wiebrand Hendriks (1744-1831). Zeuner also produced canal and harbour landscapes and more rarely battle scenes, as depicted in lot 303.
