Lot Essay

Wouwerman was an artist beloved of French collectors in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This important example of his work was in the collection of the Marquis de Saint-Clou, Paris, whose pictures were dispersed in Paris sales in 1874, 1885 and 1889.
