Each shaped oval with gadrooned rim, engraved with coat-of arms below a duke's coronet, each marked on the reverse, further engraved with a scratchweight '79" 8'; '77" 17'; '60" 6'; '59" 17'; '44" 19'; '44" 18'

The arms are those of Graham quartering Montrose for James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose (1755-1836). The first five dishes were presumably made to celebrate his first marriage to Lady Jemima Elizabeth, daughter of John Ashburnham, 2nd Earl of Ashburnham in 1785. The sixth dish was presumably made to celebrate his second marriage to Lady Caroline Maria, daughter of George Montagu, 4th Duke of Manchester, whom he married in 1790. (6)

Four meat dishes with the mark of Andrew Fogelberg and Stephen Gilbert, London, dated 1785 and 1790 and engraved with the arms of the Duke of Montrose were sold as the property of the Duke of Montrose, C.B., C.V.O., Christie's, London, 25 June 1947, lot 145. Three similar meat-dishes of 1790 were lot 146 of the same sale.
