FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL PARTS, with all advertisements called for in Parrish present. First published in monthly parts from February to September 1876, Daniel Deronda, tells the story of an aristocratic young man who, in rescuing a young woman, is introduced to Jewish life in 19th century Victorian London. Eliot's clear sympathetic support for the Zionist cause made this work, which was to be her last novel, also her most controversial. In spite of her readers' seeming reluctance to accept the Jewish element of the story, the novel was a success for Eliot, selling 8,000 copies of the edition in parts. Parrish, pp.37-38.
