FIRST EDITION, second issue of three paper-type (ordinary, velinpapier and fine velinpapier), with all plates colored (except for the monkey plate in vol. 3). Kotzebue details the second Russian circumnavigation. The expedition in the ship Rurick commanded by von Kotzebue, and sponsored by Count Romanzoff, sailed to Brazil, stopping at Rio de Janeiro, then went by way of Cape Horn to Chile, Tahiti, Pitcairn, and Radack, to Kamtchatka. The return was made via New Archangel, California, Hawaii, Marianas, Philippines, and St. Helena. Excellent charts were completed of the North Pacific coasts of Asia and America, the Aleutians, Pribilofs, St. Lawrence Island, and the Bering Strait where Kotzebue Sound was discovered. Volume 3 includes Adelbert von Chamisso (1871-1838) "Bemerkungen und Ansichten von dem Naturforscher der Expedition."
