BRADSHAW, T (fl.1820s). Views in the Mauritius, or Isle of France. London: James Carpenter and Son, 1832.

2o (367 x 268 mm). Title with wood-engraved royal arms, dedication leaf, 40 lithographic plates by William Rider after Bradshaw on India paper, mounted, and list of subscribers. Red half morocco, original upper wrapper of part one bound in at end. Provenance: Sherborne Library (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION WITH FINE IMPRESSIONS OF THE INDIA PROOF PLATES. Imprints denote the work was published in parts between March 1831 and May 1832, but watermarks on the text leaves of this copy, as in other copies cited by Abbey, show that the descriptive text could not have been printed before 1832. Abbey surmises that there may have only been two parts. Bradshaw made his original drawings of views in Mauritius whilst Auditor-General of the island. There were 116 subscribers to his work accounting for 122 copies, including 27 proof copies. Abbey Travel 295.
