4o (284 x 225 mm). 24 hand-colored aquatint plates by Clark after Wathen, each with tissue guard. Original boards with printed paper label on spine, uncut (some light darkening and staining). Provenance: Henry Rosser (presentation inscription from the author).

FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY inscribed "from the author" on front pastedown. Wathen's "narrative is lively, and his account of eastern life is minute and interesting" (DNB). He was a fast but accurate draughtsman completing up to 20 drawings a day. The views in this work comprise: 7 of India; 6 of Malaya or Indonesia; 9 of China and 2 of St. Helena. Abbey Travel II.517.
